BULGA™ handbags are the vision of designer Natalia Konovalova. Born and raised in the former Soviet Union, she was whisked away to the United States after winning the “Princess of Kazulkum” contest. It was then that she began her career in modeling and received her first taste of fashion. Her love for being expressive and creative reached new heights when Natalia began studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree and was hit with the realization that the fashion market was overflowing with overly expensive handbags. With that, she decided to start designing sophisticated bags at an excellent price.

BULGA founder Natalia Konovalova started designing her bags under the name Kono Valova, however she searched for a name that better matched her inspiration. Natalia says, “I was looking at all the old names for towns in my country and my finger came down on a town called ‘Bulga.’ After I looked it up I literally fell out of my chair; the English translation of Bulga is leather bag!” With that BULGA was born.

Confidence, quality and originality are the three principles that created the foundation for the BULGA bag philosophy.
